The Artist - Adrian Brough
Adrian Brough began his pottery journey in the studio of his father, Alan Brough, an innovator whose influence continues to shape Adrian’s practice, alongside the artistic legacy of his mother. Formal training under William Marshall at Camborne Technical College, a master craftsman from the renowned Leach Pottery, deepened Adrian’s connection to traditional ceramics. Working from his studio in Lelant, Adrian incorporates local materials and uses both electric and flame kilns. He exclusively throws on a traditional Leach-style kick wheel, valuing the rhythm and control it provides. His work spans two distinct styles: one painterly and design-led, where fine detail dominates, and another rooted in Leach tradition, utilizing classic glaze recipes, often enriched with wood ash. Adrian occasionally explores sculptural forms, finding inspiration and renewal in the shift of medium. His portfolio also includes architectural commissions, such as work for the Dorrien-Smith family on Tresco, showcasing his versatility and craftsmanship
