I originally studied painting, followed by a career in illustration, but it wasn’t until I discovered mosaic nearly thirty years ago that I found what I really wanted to do. Mosaic allows me to ‘construct’ art, combining physical hand skills with a painter’s eye for colour and design. I value craftsmanship, and while I explore contemporary ideas and materials, I always keep in mind the traditions that make this art form timeless. Mosaic enables me to order materials into lasting forms, making sense of the world I see around me. My projects range from large hospital mosaics in Yorkshire to intricate pieces for a museum in Pennsylvania. Though I admire experimental approaches, my mosaics remain rooted in traditional techniques and materials.
