The Artist - Tommo Mundy

I am an emerging artist who mainly paints acrylic on canvas. I like to find beauty in the mundane, exposing happiness in social situations. For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed creating, I remember I was always drawing people and faces. I have always been fascinated by people and communities, it radiates a sense of joy and togetherness in my eyes. I believe that is my biggest aim, for the audience to relate to that feeling when viewing my work. Within my current practice I am aiming to use more vibrant colours to create a sense of nostalgia, almost like a happy vivid memory. David Hockney has always been a huge inspiration when I have been producing my artwork. When I view Hockney’s work I believe he portrays themes of friendship, human connections and love in his work. The way his artwork makes me feel is incentivized, and as an artist I aim to share these characteristics in my artwork. I intend to share a sense of closeness and relatability when people view my work, to bring people together and become a part of my close-knit community. I have always thrived when being around other people whether that be my friends or my family or even strangers. It is the connections and memories that are constantly being made reality that pushes me into wanting to make more, this is why it is such a needed subject matter for my work as it is how I can portray myself as a person through my work.
